Now I know why I love/hate it ...

"Starbucks - the yuppie McDonald's"

— Chris Hardwick - Wired Magazine online edition

Open Source - the Fine Line

I think there's a fine line between open source and stupidity.

— Massimo Banzi, co-inventor and producer of the open source Arduino computing platform.

The real key to success?

I'm just saying ...

In the New Testament, Jesus tells us to help the poor 3000 times. He never tells us homosexuality is a sin.

Those who are willing to sacrifice their basic liberties ...

Funny, for all surveillance, Osama bin Laden is still free -- and we're not. Guess who's winning the "war on terror?"

The title of this post also refers to a quote, of course. It is attributed to Benjamin Franklin. Currently I can't find a definitive wording, but the gist of it is clear, I think. Here are two versions. I like the second best:

"Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety."

"Those who are willing to sacrifice their basic liberties to assure their security deserve neither."

— Cory Doctorow on BoingBoing, in reference to this BBC article.

The Mysteries of CSS

"I already taught you everything I know about CSS when I showed you how to put a red border around a div."

— Robert Douglass, April 2008.

No risk, no gain

"Nur wer nichts tut macht keine Fehler."
"Only those who do nothing make no mistakes."

— [If you know the source of this quote please let me know. Thanks!]

There's gold in stupidity!

"Nobody ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public."

— H. L. Mencken US editor (1880 - 1956)

The journey is the goal ...

"Success is a journey, not a destination."

— Ben Sweetland

Fools and Fanatics

The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, and wiser people so full of doubts.

— Bertrand Russell
