Fantastic CD release: Overcast, the Music of Ed Partyka

Overcast - The Music of Ed Partyka Performed by the Sunday Night Orchestra Featuring Efrat Alony

I am a long-time fan of Ed's music, but I've chosen to share with you a short sample of the only arrangement on the record, an eight-minute (!) version of "Time" by Tom Waits. This number really gives me goose bumps. I really should post a sample of Ed's music, too, since that's the actual point of the production ...

I played French Horn on this production as a guest with Nuremberg's Sunday Night Orchestra in November 2006 and have been waiting for its release with increasingly desperate eagerness. (Apparently there were some scheduling problems finding time to get mixing and mastering done.)

Well, it's out and it's fantastic! 7 long tracks for a total of 67.5 minutes of Ed's music. The style and sound range from very hard, free, dissonant and fast right through to extremely gentle and beautiful. The remarkable vocal talents of Efrat Alony add an incredible layer of color and expression to the whole thing. (I am a real fan of hers. Go and check out her album "Unarmed and Dazed." It has been on heavy rotation constantly at our house for the last 18 months. Her website is flash, so I can't link to the player, but there's a nice selection of her work if you click on the "music" link at http://www.alony.de)

Worth buying. Catalog number MR 874428 from Mons Records
