This is a funny little piece from the Gallant period. It looks back to the Baroque in the beginning and then gives a nod to the coming Classical epoch (and even early Romanticism). This was recorded this week in St. Severin Church in Severin Strasse in Cologne, where I am playing a concert there with the organist, Gert Schmid on this coming Saturday, April 26th, 2008 at 11 a.m. I captured this on my mini-disk player to see what was going on with the acoustics, my playing and so on.
I was really worried during our rehearsals that the organ was drowning me out ... well, it wasn't. We've even decided to boost the organ registrations a bit. I can definitely give less volume overall and save my strength a bit more. I have to watch my intonation overall with the organ. It is tuned flat with respect to the standard tuning here and the various registers all have their own "personalities." We'll be doing at least two more concerts in this church this year, so I'll have the chance to learn how to make this repertoire work.
More to come!
Edit (after listening again): Hmm, the sounding middle Cs (mostly on the F-horn) sound weird and ?flat? . they really shouldn't be. I'll be watching this in our next rehearsal.
